Health & Safety / Operator Benefits

Improved Health and Safety conditions

Reduced waste typically improves working conditions. Many of the energy efficiency projects highlighted deliver reduced heat from motors, reduced heat from conventional HID lighting, better light levels, less glare and/or shadows, better quality heating, etc.

We have seen warehouses where costly inefficient lighting has been so poor, that forklift drivers have needed to work from the headlights on their forklift trucks.

Conventional SON lighting does not deliver good colour rendering. Not only can operatives have difficulty reading location labels, or in distinguishing between items; e.g. coloured garments, but the associated monochromatic light source is also responsible for the onset of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in many people.

These benefits can not only help your organisation meet its obligations with regards Health and Safety, but can also help improve productivity.

Health and Safety Considerations in the Implementation of Energy Efficiency Projects

Whilst energy efficiency solutions can deliver substantial cost, environmental and operational benefits, effective health and safety planning must also go into the assessment of their implementation.

Keith Wyatt has been responsible for the planning (risk assessments and method statements) and implementation of a wide range of single site projects, through to acting as Principle Contractor under the CDM 2007 Regulations of large multi-site projects.
